MapZone’s Privacy Policy

This is a Privacy Policy of Ordnance Survey of Romsey Road, Southampton, SO16 4GU in relation to the MapZone website (http://mapzone.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/ ).

MapZone respects the privacy of every individual who visits our website. This Privacy Policy describes the information that we may ask you for, and the ways in which we may use that information. It also tells you how you can check that information about you that we keep is accurate and how you can instruct us to erase this information from our files. If you are not a registered user then we do not collect information about you which enables us to identify you personally, but we may use cookies to enable us to obtain non personal information about your use of our website as indicated below under the heading "Cookies". By registering as a user you will consent to us processing any personal information that you give us as set out in this Privacy Policy. We comply with the requirements and are notified under the Data Protection Act 1998 ("the Act").

With regard to children, we adhere to the following principles:

1. We recognise that children need to be treated differently from adults and that all communications directed at children, or likely to be of particular interest to children, must be age appropriate and must not exploit their credulity, lack of experience or sense of loyalty.

2. We agree that personal information must only be collected from children with the explicit and verifiable consent of the child's parent/guardian unless the child is aged 12 years or over, the information collected is restricted to that necessary to enable the child to be sent further but limited and appropriate on-line communications and it is clear that the child understands what is involved.

3. We agree that personal information collected from children must not be disclosed or transferred to third parties without the explicit and verifiable consent of the child's parent/guardian.

4. We agree that personal information relating to other people (for example, parents) must not be collected from children.

5. We will ensure that the public display or distribution of personal information by children must not be possible without the explicit and verifiable consent of the child's parent/guardian. For this reason we will do our best to ensure that no identifiable personal information relating to children is carried on the MapZone website. We do not want photos which would identify any child.

The Information That We Collect	For each school which registers with us, we will need to know its e-mail address, telephone number, fax number and password. In relation to each school we need to know the name and email address of one or more teachers. We will also receive photographs for display on our website. In relation to children we will collect certain information in response to online enquiry boxes. This information must be given in accordance with our guidelines and must not identify a child.
Our Use of This Information	We use the teacher’s email address, school address, telephone and fax number to contact the teacher when necessary. Any photographs, which in accordance with our rules should not contain sufficient detail about individuals to enable them to be identified, will be displayed on our website if a teacher so requests. Employees, contractors and agents of Ordnance Survey may be given access to any data which we collect, but their use shall be limited to the performance of their duties in relation to MapZone. Information about your school and children who attend your school (but not so as to identify any child) will be displayed on the MapZone website for any visitor to see. We may send to a school or teacher who is registered with MapZone information relating to the products and services of ourselves and others which we judge from time to time may be of interest to such a school or teacher. Other than as required by law, or as set out in this Privacy Policy, we will not disclose, rent or sell your information to any third party without your permission.
Security Measures	We will take reasonable precautions to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your information. We use a secure socket layer to encrypt your information, which is stored separately on a secure password protected server. Our agents who have access to your information are required to keep that information confidential and are not permitted to use it for any purpose other than to enable you to use our website. If you have given us any personal data (as defined by the Act) about yourself and would like copies of those data we are entitled to charge you £10 for copies, or if you would like us to correct any factual inaccuracies, then please e-mail us at mapzone@ordsvy.gov.uk. > If so requested we will use reasonable efforts to supply, correct or delete information about you on our files.
Cookies	From time to time, we may collect information about you that does not identify you personally. This type of information might include the type of Internet browser or computer operating system you are using and the domain name of the website from which you are linked to our website or advertisement. When you view our website we may store some information on your computer. This information will be in the form of a "cookie" which helps us to tailor our website to match your interests and preferences better. Transfers of Information Outside the European Economic Area	Use of our website may result in the transfer of information across international boundaries. By visiting our website and communicating with us electronically, teachers consent to the transfer of information outside the European Economic Area relating to themselves and their school (in so far as it is identifiable).
